Experience

I am grateful for all the opportunities I have been given to gain experience in many different areas. Below are experiences that I have been able to complete as a growing professional. Internships and job experience are listed that I have accomplished. References are available upon request.

Weber State University Assistant Coach Internship

For my college internship I had the opportunity to be the assistant coach for WSU cheerleading team. This internship was from April 2016- December 2016. This internship was to practice Human Resources tasks and practice my degree of Organizational Communications and Professional and Technical Writing. In this internship I was able to coach, design document elements, and perform any task that was delegated by the head coach.

Below are a list of duties that I completed during my internship:

  • Take over social media for team on Facebook and Instagram

  • Create and Present 2016-2017 Athlete Contract and Order Forms

  • Create, Promote, and Organize “Summer Stunt Series” and “Stunt Clinic’s”

  • Evaluate athletes in a formal document and meeting over strength and weaknesses for personal growth

  • Keep team on track of personal and team goals and help achieve them

  • Organize and Promote “Wildcat Cheer Invitational Competition”

Professional and Technical Writing

The main part of this internship was to practice my professional and technical writing skills. I took a lot of courses during my undergraduate degree that prepared me to make documents for my internship. Below are the documents that I have created for my internship and with descriptions of the purpose of the document.

WSU Tryout Application

The first thing that I had to create was a tryout application for 2016-2017 tryout season. The application that was used for years was hard to read and there was not enough place for a person to write free hand. This new and improved application had appealing white space and has a place to add a picture so that the judges have a clear picture of the person trying out.

WSU Spirit Squad Contract

The second duty was to create and edit the 2016-2017 Spirit Squad contact. This contract is an outline of rules and regulations about being on the team. It list expectations that must be signed by every athlete to comply with everything that is in the contract. Working close with the head coach we produced this working document and presented it to the veteran and rookie team members.

WSU Summer Stunt Clinic

In the summer the head coach and myself wanted to create a fundraiser for the team. The fundraiser was a stunt clinic for kids of all ages to come and work with the team to get better skills and progress for there season. I was in charge of planning this event and creating documentation. This was a successful event that was a nice kick start of fundraising for the team.

WSU Jr. Clinic

Every year the cheer team has a Jr. clinic were they prepare children under the age of 16 to perform at a football or basketball game. This is a huge fundraiser for the team. I helped plan this event and helped the cheerleaders of the team create their routines they were teaching the children. I updated the old form and made sure the athletes knew what was expected of them to make this a successful fundrasier.

WSU 5k

It has been a tradition of the cheerleading team to participate in a 5k run. This run is a team bonding experience were the athletes dress up in costumes and run the race for fun. This is to show the team that they are lucky to be able to have there athleticism because there are some people are unable. This form was created to give the cheerleaders a training program to get ready for the 5k and I wanted to know more about each personal cheerleader as a individual, know them on a deeper level. The form was to be filled out and for us to understand our athletes back story.

WSU Cheer Competition

Another major fundraiser is a cheerleading competition that is put on by the Weber cheer team. To make this a successful event we need customers, and that means to get a lot of teams to participate in the competition. So I designed a flyer and a registration form to be sent out to all teams in Utah. This was a huge job to promote this competition. The competition is in January and we are hoping it is a success.

RC Competes Cheerleading Guidebook

RC competes is a company that is over all the cheerleader in Utah. They put on state competitions and safety clinic that each cheerleader in Utah must attend. They wanted a guidebook to help cheer coaches know everything about cheer in Utah, such as rules, regulations, competition information, anything a coach needs to know to have a successful program. I personally put this guidebook together and the client was happy with the result.

Coaching

The other main part of my internship was to share my cheerleading experiences and expertise by coaching all aspect of cheerleading. The skills I helped with were pyramids, baskets, stunts, tumbling, and making routines for routines throughout the year. Below are pictures and videos of my time as assistant coach.
